You can change the portal's language and colour theme at any time, and log out when you've finished. These settings are for you only and don't affect anyone else.

Under Dark mode, pick one:
The portal recommends Auto. Until you pick a theme yourself, the portal uses the one your organiser chose for the event.
Under Choose app language, pick a language from the list. "Changing it will update the language throughout the app." The event's content reloads in that language.
You only see the languages your event is available in. If there's only one, there's nothing to choose.
Before you log in, you can change these on the welcome page instead, with the globe icon for language and the sun or moon icon for the theme.

You return to the event's welcome page. Logging out resets the theme to Auto but keeps your language.
Some events still offer the previous version of the portal. If yours does, the menu under your picture has Switch Back To Old Layout. It opens the old portal in a new tab.
