Eventify Kiosk for Desktop turns a Windows or Mac laptop into a self check-in kiosk for your event. Attendees scan their QR code or search for their name, check their details and print their badge. This article explains what the app does and the order to set it up in.
What the desktop kiosk does
- QR code check-in. Attendees scan the QR code from their badge, confirmation email or the Eventify app with the laptop's webcam. You can also connect a USB barcode scanner.
- Search by name. Attendees without their QR code can type their name and pick themselves from the list.
- Badge printing. The kiosk prints the attendee's badge on any printer installed on the computer, such as a label printer, a badge printer or an office printer. There is no print dialog; the badge goes straight to the printer you chose.
- Check-in. Printing a badge can check the attendee in at the same time. You can also run a check-in only kiosk that checks people in without printing.
- Working offline. Once the attendee list is downloaded, scanning and name search keep working if the internet drops. Check-ins made offline wait on the laptop until you sync them.
The app opens full screen, so attendees see only the kiosk. Staff use the small round buttons on the scan screen for Settings, Sync and Logout.

Set it up in this order
- Save Kiosk Setup and create a badge template in the admin panel. The kiosk reads its settings and badge designs from your event. See How to Prepare Your Event for the Desktop Kiosk.
- Install the app on each laptop. Download the Windows or Mac installer from the Badge Designer in your admin panel. See How to Download and Install Eventify Kiosk on Windows or Mac.
- Log in and choose your event. See How to Log In, Choose an Event and Log Out of the Desktop Kiosk.
- Download the attendee list. Do this before the doors open, while you have a good connection. See How to Download Attendees and Sync the Desktop Kiosk.
- Install your printer and choose it in the kiosk settings. See How to Set Up a Badge Printer and Kiosk Settings on the Desktop Kiosk.
- Print a test badge. Scan a staff member's QR code and check the badge size, position and rotation before attendees arrive.

What you need at the venue
- A Windows or Mac laptop or all-in-one computer, one for each kiosk.
- A webcam (the built-in camera works) or a USB barcode scanner.
- A printer installed on that computer, with labels or badge stock that match your badge template size.
- An internet connection for the first download and for syncing. The kiosk keeps working offline once the list is on the laptop.
Each laptop logs in on its own, so you can run as many kiosks as you need for one event.
Desktop kiosk or mobile kiosk
The Eventify mobile app also has a kiosk mode for iPad and Android tablets. It connects to supported Brother and Zebra printers over the network or Bluetooth. The desktop kiosk works with any printer installed on the computer instead. Both use the same Kiosk Setup and badge templates from your admin panel. For the tablet version, see How to Set Up Kiosk Mode on Eventify.
Screen wording can differ from this guide if your event uses its own translations.
Common questions
Can attendees register at the desktop kiosk?
If you turn on registration in Kiosk Setup, the kiosk shows a Registration button. It opens your registration link in the computer's web browser. There is no registration form inside the kiosk itself.
Can I use the desktop kiosk for session check-in?
No. The desktop kiosk checks attendees in to the event. Session check-in is done from the Eventify mobile app or the admin panel. See How To Manage Session Check-Ins.
