The desktop kiosk reads attendee QR codes with the laptop's webcam or with a USB barcode scanner. You can also turn scanning off and let attendees search by name. This article explains each setup.
The webcam view appears on the scan screen under the search box. Attendees hold their QR code up to it. After each scan the camera pauses while the kiosk finds the attendee, then starts again.

On a Mac, the kiosk asks for camera access the first time it opens. On Windows, camera access follows your Windows privacy settings. If the camera doesn't show, see How to Fix Common Desktop Kiosk Problems.
If the computer has more than one camera, such as a built-in webcam and a USB webcam, a camera button appears on the scan screen.

If you always use an external webcam, check that it's the camera showing on the scan screen before attendees arrive.
Most USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners act like a keyboard: they type the code and press Enter. The kiosk reads the code from the search box.

Keep the cursor in the search box. Scans only register when the search box is selected, so click in it again if someone has clicked elsewhere on the screen.
Your scanner must be able to read QR codes (2D codes), not only barcodes. Set it to add Enter after each scan; most scanners do this by default. See the scanner manufacturer's guide if you need to change it.
Keep the attendee list up to date with Sync so that people who registered recently are found when they scan. See How to Download Attendees and Sync the Desktop Kiosk.
To hide the camera and let attendees find themselves by name only, turn on Disable Scan in Kiosk Setup in the admin panel. The prompt shows instead of the camera, and attendees use the "Search by name" box.
You can also turn Disable Scan on or off in the kiosk's Settings on one laptop. The next sync resets it to the Kiosk Setup value.

Codes that don't belong to an attendee of this event show "The QR code is invalid".
Can I use a phone as the scanner?
Not with the desktop kiosk. Use the laptop's webcam or a USB scanner. For tablet and phone kiosks, see How to Set Up Kiosk Mode on Eventify.
Can attendees still search by name when a USB scanner is connected?
Yes. They type their name in the "Search by name" box and click themselves in the list of results.
