A PDF invoice is no longer enough in Belgium.
Since 1 January 2026, every B2B sale in Belgium needs a structured Peppol e-invoice. Eventify generates one the moment a company buys a ticket, in the exact format the law requires.
The B2B e-invoicing rule is already live
On 1 January 2026, Belgium made structured e-invoicing mandatory for every domestic B2B transaction. A PDF sent by email is no longer a valid tax document. The three-month tolerance period ended on 31 March 2026. Non-compliance starts at €1,500 per offence and rises to €5,000.
If your ticket buyers include companies, freelancers, associations or government bodies in Belgium, this affects every paid ticket you sell to them. They need a Peppol BIS 3.0 invoice in UBL format, delivered through the Peppol network. Without it, they cannot deduct the VAT and they will start refusing your invoices.
This is also a preview of what comes next. Belgium moves to real-time e-reporting through Peppol in 2028. The EU ViDA programme extends the same rules to cross-border B2B trade by 2030. Solving it inside your ticketing platform today means you are ready for the next two waves with no extra work.
Peppol invoicing built into ticket checkout
You do not need a second tool, a separate portal or a custom integration. Eventify generates the Peppol invoice the moment a corporate attendee completes checkout.
| What organisers do today | The Eventify way |
|---|---|
| Export ticket sales to accounting, then ask finance to generate a Peppol invoice for every B2B buyer. | Automatic. The buyer enters their VAT number at checkout. A structured invoice is generated and sent. |
| Map invoice fields to EN 16931 by hand, or pay for a separate Peppol tool. | Built-in mapping to Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 in UBL 2.1. |
| Log into a separate Peppol portal to dispatch each invoice. | Routed through our certified Peppol partner, e-invoice.be. |
| Discover later that the buyer's Peppol ID was wrong and the invoice bounced. | Buyer's Peppol ID is checked at checkout, so failures are caught before the sale closes. |
Every invoice carries your branding, your invoice numbering, the buyer's company name, the buyer's VAT ID and the full set of EN 16931 fields. Your accounting team gets a clean record. The buyer's accounting system imports it with no manual entry.
From ticket sale to compliant invoice in seconds
No second tool. No XML coding. No back-and-forth with finance. Three steps, fully automated.
Buyer enters VAT at checkout
Your corporate attendee picks a ticket, enters their company name and VAT number. Eventify validates the Peppol ID in real time, so wrong numbers are caught before payment.
Eventify builds the structured invoice
The platform maps ticket data to Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 in UBL 2.1 XML. Every required EN 16931 field is filled. Your branding, your invoice number, the buyer's details.
Delivered to the buyer's accounting system
The invoice is dispatched over the Peppol network through our certified access point partner, e-invoice.be. Lands directly inside the buyer's ERP.

Common questions
Do I need Peppol if I only sell tickets to individuals?
No. The Belgian B2B mandate covers business-to-business transactions only. Tickets sold to private individuals do not require Peppol.
What about tickets sold to companies outside Belgium?
Eventify can send Peppol invoices to any buyer registered on the Peppol network, across the 30 plus countries that use it. From July 2030, EU cross-border B2B will also fall under mandatory e-invoicing through ViDA, and you are already set up for it.
Do I need to be Peppol registered myself?
Yes, and it takes a few minutes. Your Peppol ID is based on your VAT number. Eventify and e-invoice.be handle the registration during onboarding.
What if my buyer is not on the Peppol network?
You fall back to a standard PDF invoice by email for that buyer. As soon as they register on Peppol, future invoices are sent electronically.
What format are the invoices in?
Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 in UBL 2.1 XML, conforming to the European standard EN 16931. This is the format Belgium has accepted since the mandate went live in January 2026.
Will this still work after the 2028 changes?
Yes. Belgium moves to the Peppol 5-corner model in 2028 for near real-time reporting to the tax authority. Because your invoices are already in the Peppol network, the upgrade needs no change on your side.
What is the Belgium B2B e-invoicing law and when did it start?
Belgium's structured B2B e-invoicing law took effect on 1 January 2026. Every domestic business-to-business invoice must be a Peppol BIS 3.0 e-invoice in UBL 2.1 XML, conforming to the European EN 16931 standard. PDF invoices sent by email no longer meet the legal requirement.
What are the fines for not sending Peppol invoices in Belgium?
Non-compliance fines start at €1,500 per offence and rise to €5,000 for repeat violations. The three-month tolerance period after the 1 January 2026 start date ended on 31 March 2026, so enforcement is now active.
Who is exempt from the Belgian Peppol mandate?
B2C sales to private individuals are not covered. Small businesses below the VAT threshold and certain VAT-exempt activities have limited exposure, but if you sell tickets to any Belgian company, freelancer, association or government body, the mandate applies.
How do I send Peppol invoices for event tickets in Belgium?
With Eventify, you do not send them manually. When a corporate attendee buys a ticket and enters their VAT number, the platform generates a Peppol BIS 3.0 invoice in UBL XML and dispatches it through the Peppol network via our certified access point partner. No second tool or portal required.
Does Eventify integrate with my ERP or accounting system?
Yes. Outbound invoices are pushed through the Peppol network, so they land directly in any ERP or accounting system connected to Peppol (SAP, Odoo, Exact, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage and others). You also get a flat export from Eventify for your own bookkeeping.
Is Peppol mandatory for cross-border B2B sales in the EU?
Not yet, but it will be. From July 2030, the EU ViDA programme requires e-invoicing for cross-border B2B transactions across all member states. Belgium chose Peppol as its network, and most EU countries are converging on the same Peppol BIS 3.0 / EN 16931 format.
Can I still send PDF invoices after the Belgium B2B mandate?
PDF invoices are no longer a valid legal tax document for B2B sales in Belgium. You can still send a PDF copy as a courtesy, but the structured Peppol XML version is the version your buyer needs to deduct VAT and the version the tax authority accepts.
Does Eventify work for conferences, trade shows and other event types?
Yes. Eventify is used for conferences, trade shows, expos, training sessions, gala dinners, MICE events and more. Peppol invoicing is built into the ticket checkout for every event type, alongside branded checkout, badge printing and lead capture in the same platform.
