A Scan QR challenge rewards attendees with points for scanning QR codes at your event. Each QR code is linked to a specific entity — an exhibitor booth, sponsor, session, speaker, or another attendee. When an attendee scans the code using the Eventify app, points are automatically credited to their gamification score.
Scan QR is the most common challenge type for in-person and hybrid events because it incentivises attendees to visit booths, attend sessions, and network.
Challenge Name (required) — The title attendees see in the app. Keep it action-oriented (e.g. "Visit Exhibitor Booths", "Meet the Speakers").
Description (required) — Tell attendees exactly what to do (e.g. "Scan the QR code at each exhibitor booth to earn points"). Maximum 300 characters.
The QR Trigger defines which type of QR code attendees must scan to earn points. Select the relevant entity from the dropdown:
| Trigger | When to Use |
|---|---|
| Exhibitor QR | Drive traffic to exhibitor booths |
| Sponsor QR | Reward attendees for engaging with sponsors |
| Session QR | Award points for attending specific sessions |
| Speaker QR | Reward attendees for meeting speakers |
| User QR | Points for connecting with other attendees (peer-to-peer networking) |
Booth Person QR option: For Exhibitor and Sponsor triggers, you can also enable "Consider booth person QR" — this means scanning the booth staff member's personal QR (not just the booth QR) also counts as a valid completion.
Reward Type — choose one:
Points per scan — enter the number of points awarded each time a valid QR is scanned (e.g. 50).
Is Recurring — toggle on if attendees should earn points each time they scan a different QR code of the configured type.
| Mode | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Single (off) | Challenge completes once. Points awarded once then locked. |
| Recurring (on) | Each unique QR scan = one completion. Points accumulate. |
Max Points Limit (strongly recommended for recurring) — caps the total points one attendee can earn from this challenge.
Formula: Max Points = Points per scan × maximum number of unique scans you want to allow.
Without a limit, one attendee could monopolise the leaderboard by scanning every available QR code.
Show Popup — displays a congratulations popup to the attendee in the app when they complete the challenge.
Click Save Changes. The challenge is created and set to Active by default — attendees matching the Visibility setting can see it immediately.
Eventify automatically generates QR codes for each entity linked to the trigger. To download QR codes:
Q: Can I have multiple Scan QR challenges with different triggers running at the same time?
A: Yes. Create separate challenges for each trigger type — e.g. one for Exhibitor QR (50 pts) and another for Session QR (100 pts). Both run simultaneously.
Q: What happens if an attendee scans an Exhibitor QR but the challenge trigger is set to Sponsor?
A: The scan will not register points for that challenge. The trigger must match exactly — Exhibitor QR scans only count for Exhibitor-triggered challenges.
Q: Can I change the points value after the challenge has started?
A: Yes. Edit the challenge and update the points value. Previously earned points are not retroactively adjusted — the new value applies to future scans only.
Q: What if an attendee reaches the Max Points Limit?
A: Once the limit is reached, further scans do not award additional points for that challenge. The challenge appears as completed in the app.
Q: Can I delete a Scan QR challenge after it has started?
A: Yes, but deleting a challenge permanently removes all associated point logs. Export leaderboard data before deleting if you need a record.
